You have an in-ground pool with a vinyl liner as a covering finish – it’s faded, leaking or has a hole in it – so it’s time to replace the liner.

How long will it take to replace a pool liner?

Once you’ve chosen your Design CliniQ as your installation specialist and chosen the colour/ptterns you want, your pool renovation is likely to be finished within few weeks, depending on the scope of work required. The pool liner itself will take between 5 and 7 days to manufacture, and a fairly standard timeline would go something like this:

Day 1: Empty the pool and measure it up to order the pool liner.

Day 2 – 4: Plan the pool shell – repair any surface cracks, execute any structural changes and restore fixing strips if needed. It’s also an excellent time to correct any lights over to the newer LED styles.

Once the membrane is on-site, the installation itself is generally finish within the day, sometimes ranging out to two or three days depending on how long it takes to re-fill the pool.

Types of Pool Liner Repair and What You Can Do

Pool liners, especially in Singapore’s hot climate, can experience wear and tear over time. Here are some common issues and possible solutions.

Wrinkles in Fabric

  • Cause: Heat exposure is a major culprit for wrinkles in pool liners. As the liner expands and contracts, it can form loose folds.
  • Possible DIY Fix (for small wrinkles): In some cases, minor wrinkles might smooth out naturally with cooler temperatures.
  • Recommended Approach: For stubborn wrinkles or larger pools, draining the pool and reinstalling the liner is the most effective solution. Safety Note: This process can be complex and requires proper tools and techniques. It’s best to hire a qualified pool professional to ensure the liner is taut and secure.

Sagging Edges

  • Cause: Similar to wrinkles, sagging edges often occur due to heat-related expansion and contraction of the liner material. Over time, the liner can lose elasticity, causing it to droop at the corners or top rim.
  • Possible DIY Fix (temporary): In some instances, minor sagging might respond to readjusting the liner’s anchor points. However, this is a temporary fix and may not be suitable for long-term solutions.
  • Recommended Approach: For lasting results, call a pool professional. They can assess the severity of sagging and recommend the best course of action. Pro Tip: Professionals often recommend fixing sagging edges on hot days when the liner is more pliable.

Rips and Tears

  • Cause: Sharp objects, punctures, or excessive stress on the liner can cause rips and tears.
  • DIY Fix: Unfortunately, there’s no reliable DIY solution for rips and tears. Attempting to patch a major tear yourself might compromise the liner’s integrity and lead to further damage.
  • Recommended Approach: For rips and tears, regardless of size, contact a pool service company like Design Cliniq. Here’s why a professional is crucial:
    • We can assess the damage and identify the root cause of the tear, preventing future occurrences.
    • Professionals have the expertise and tools to properly patch or replace the damaged liner section.
    • We can ensure the repair is watertight and aesthetically pleasing.
